The Art of the West Show and Sale

Every year the Kamloops Cowboy Festival is host to the Canadian Cowboy Country magazine sponsored Art of the West Show and Sale, a juried western art show. Artists from all over North America can submit a sample of their work to a committee where it is reviewed and either rejected or accepted for display and judging at the art show during the Festival.

The Art of the West Show and Sale has three categories in which artists can enter that include; Flat work which can be a drawing or painting in oil, water colour, acrylic, pastel, graphite, or mixed media; Sculpture of a resilient medium (not wax, putty, etc) which usually includes bronzes, wood, clay and/or ceramic figures, but could be any three dimensional object; and original photography.

Entries in each category in the art show are judged and prize money and rosettes are presented to the winning artists ... a rosette and $450 for best of show, a rosette and $350 for runner up, and a rosette for honourable mention for the third place piece. There is also a "People's Choice Award" rosette which is given to the entry with the most votes from the public at the show.

The 20th Anniversary of the Kamloops Cowboy Festival once again had some spectacular entries. There were 38 pieces that totaled a value of over $27,000.00; 7 sculptures, 16 flat work and 15 photos. The winning artists in 2016 were:
